Redbridge CC Sunday Club Rides List

7th December 2014 – 25th January 2015

All Sunday social and non-stop rides leave the Redbridge Cycling Centre 09.15 meeting others at Chigwell Row 09.30. 

Bronze rides: approximately 35-40 mile long and will return Redbridge Cycling centre approximately 12.30 – 12.45.                                                                                           Silver rides: vary between 50 – 55 miles will return Redbridge Cycling Centre approximately 14.00 – 14.30 hours.  Occasionally a silver ride might be an all-day ride with a distance approximately 65 – 70 miles returning Redbridge Cycling centre approximately 16.30 hours.                                                                                                                       Gold rides are held every Sunday. They are non-stop and will be around 45 – 50 miles covering mid-Essex.

Approximate average speeds.  Bronze 12 – 13 mph.  Silver 13 – 15 mph.  Gold 17 – 18 mph.

Sunday 7th December                                                                                                   Bronze Ride.    Ingatestone, Pierros café/restaurant, Market Place Ingatestone. 38 miles    Silver Ride.   Café on the Water, Hanningfield Reservoir, CM3 8HX Chelmsford   55 miles.

Sunday 14th December                                                                                                 Bronze Ride.  Tour of Navestock to the tea stop at Norpar Flowers, near Navestock Church. Then via Clatterford End back to Redbridge or onto Ongar for the Christmas Lunch at the Two Brewers in Ongar.  Distance 35 miles (39 miles if attending Christmas Lunch in Ongar).                                                                                                                 Silver Ride.  Bretts Buttery White Roding via Sabines Green  Navestock and Norton Heath. Return via Ongar (for those attending the Christmas Lunch at the Two Brewers in Ongar), Toot Hill, Stapleford Tawney, Passingford Bridge, Hook Lane, Redbridge Cycling Centre.  50miles.

Sunday 21st December                                                                                                 Bronze Ride.   North Weald Airfeld, The Squadron Café.
Silver Ride.   Long Ride to Norton Heath via the Matchings.

Friday 26th December.  Boxing Day Ride (Bronze Ride level) to see the famous annual Tug 0f War competition across Cripsey Brook in Moreton.  32 miles

Sunday 28th December                                                                                                 Bronze Ride   Short Ride to the Bake House, Cooks Mill Green. 38 miles
Silver Ride    Long Ride to the Bake House, Cooks Mill Green.  55 miles.

Thursday 1st January 2015. New Year’s Day ride (Bronze Ride level) to see the Morris Dancing outside the Leather Bottle Pub in Blackmore.   35 miles

Sunday 4th January                                                                                                       Bronze ride The Mucking Mudlark. A ride across the Essex lowlands to Old Church Hill Laindon onto the café near Mucking at the Thurrock Thameside Nature Park SS17 0RN. 40 miles.                                                                                                                           Silver Ride.    Café on the Lake, Hanningfield Reservoir.  55 miles

Sunday 11th January                                                                                                      Bronze Ride.  Short ride to Writtle, the café opposite Writtle College. 40 miles             Silver Ride.  Long ride to Writtle, the café opposite Writtle College. 55 miles

Sunday 18th January.                                                                                                     Bronze Ride  Via Toot Hill, Moreton and Abbess Roding to Norton Heath Café 40 miles     Silver Ride.  Circular ride to Hatfield Heath Tea Rooms.  55 miles.

Sunday 25th January.
Bronze ride.  The Café at the Old Railway Station Rayne.  Continue on the Flitch Cycleway to Braintree Railway station for the 1.00 pm train back to Witham, Shenfield and all stations on the Liverpool Street line. Arrive Shenfield 13.45, Romford 14.07, Ilford 14.28.  Book in advance on National Rail Website for very cheap fares – more details later. Options available for those wanting to turn short before Rayne to ride home.  40 miles to Braintree Railway station.
Silver Ride.  All day ride to the Café at the Old Railway Station Rayne.  65 miles. Make sure you have lights on your bike.

Saturday Training Rides.40 mile training rides are held every Saturday Morning, leaving 09.30 from the Cycling Centre. The route is always the same:  Abridge – Toot Hill – Moreton – Fyfield – Willingale – Walls Green – Pigstye Green – Norton Heath – Nine Ashes – Kelvedon Hatch – Navestock – Shonks Mill – Stapleford Abbots – Lamborne End.  NOTE, these are training rides where, unlike Sunday social rides, we don’t wait for stragglers.

Christmas Holiday Rides.
As well as the Boxing Day and New Year’s day rides it is likely that there will be additional rides for different levels of fitness throughout the holiday period. See the Facebook page and web-site for details nearer the time.

NOTE.  All those taking part in rides must have with them the following:  pump, spare inner tube with valve of the correct length, puncture outfit, tyre levers, lightweight tool kit.  Also make sure you have front and rear lights.

  1. Hi I am moving back to wanstead in september and am looking for a friendly group. I would be a novice and wondered how fast your introductory rides would go?

    You are very welcome to join us on our next introductory ride, which has now been put back to August 18th. The average speed will be around 12 – 13 mph and we wont leave anyone behind.
