Club Rides

Sunday Club Rides. 7th September – 19th October 2014
IMPORTANT:  It is expected that participants on our club rides wear an approved hardshell helmet. For further information contact Paul O’Kelly (Sunday Rides Coordinator) at

All Sunday social and non-stop rides leave the Redbridge Cycling Centre 09.15 meeting others at Chigwell Row 09.30.

Bronze rides: approximately 35-40 mile long and will return Redbridge Cycling centre approximately 12.30 – 12.45.
Silver rides: vary between 55 – 65 miles will return Redbridge Cycling Centre approximately 14.00 – 14.30 hours.  Occasionally a silver ride might be an all-day ride with a distance approximately 65 miles returning Redbridge Cycling centre approximately 16.00 hours.
Gold rides are held every Sunday. They are non-stop and will be around 45 – 50 miles covering mid-Essex.
Approximate average speeds.  Bronze 12 – 13 mph.  Silver 13 – 15 mph.  Gold 17 – 18 mph.
Sunday 7th September
Bronze Ride.    Ingatestone, Pierros café/restaurant, Market Place Ingatestone. 38 miles
Silver Ride.   BHN Garden Centre E Hanningfield Rd, Chelmsford CM3 8EW
01245 400360 (Mid way between Rettendon and East Haningfield). 60 miles.

Sunday 14th September
Club 10 mile time trial Course E9/10 (Leaden Roding to Dunmow and back on the B184) Start 8.00 am. Organiser Trevor Benson.
Bronze Ride.  Hatfield Heath Tea Rooms. 40 miles.
Silver Ride.  The Shed Coffee House, Sawbridgeworth. 60 miles 
Alternatively, for those wishing to see the final stage of the Tour of Britain in London (15.30 -17.30) there may be some members riding the along the River Lea/Stort towpath into London.  For more details of the stage, goto www.tourofbritain.co.uk/stages. Sunday 21st September 
Bronze Ride.  Short ride to the Bakehouse Café, Cooksmill Green. 40 miles
Silver Ride.  Long ride to the Bakehouse Café, Cooksmill Green. 55miles
Sunday 28th September. 
Club 10 mile 2-up Team Time Trial. Course E9/10 (leaden Roding to Dunmow and back on the B184) start 9.00 am. Organiser Tom Moore.
Bronze Ride.  Moreton (White Hart) or Ongar (Delimores Café). Venue to be decided.
Silver Ride. White Roding, Bretts Buttery.

Sunday 5th Oct.
Club 25 mile time trial Course E11/25 (Between Blackmore and Highwood)  Start 8.30 am. Organiser Steve Smith and Paul O’Kelly (Entries to Paul O’Kelly)
Bronze Ride.  Norton Heath.
Silver Ride.  Writtle Tea Rooms, opposite Writtle Agricultural College.

Sunday 12th Oct. 
Club Championship Hillclimb.  Banks Lane – Tawney Common. (Woodhatch) Start  9.30 am. Organiser to be announced
Bronze ride.   North Weald Railway Station
Silver Ride.  Mystery circuit of Mid-Essex.

Sunday 19th Oct.
Bronze Ride.  North Weald Airfield, The Squadron Café. 37 miles
Silver Ride.   Roydon Mill.  Café by Roydon Marina, Roydon, Harlow CM19 5EJ. Return via Harlow, Magdelen Laver, Moreton and Toot Hill. 55 miles.
Saturday Training Rides.
40 mile training rides are held every Saturday Morning, leaving 09.30 from the Cycling Centre. The route is always the same:  Abridge – Toot Hill – Moreton – Fyfield – Willingale – Walls Green – Pigstye Green – Norton Heath – Nine Ashes – Kelvedon htch – Navestock – Shonks Mill – Stapleford Abbots – Lamborne End.  NOTE, these are training rides where, unlike Sunday social rides, we don’t wait for stragglers.

  1. Hi I am moving back to wanstead in september and am looking for a friendly group. I would be a novice and wondered how fast your introductory rides would go?

    You are very welcome to join us on our next introductory ride, which has now been put back to August 18th. The average speed will be around 12 – 13 mph and we wont leave anyone behind.
